New Year

The Passionate Redheads may be resting for now, but we're already thinking about the next Relay.  Last year it seemed that the "big guys" took over a lot of the heavy fundraising, making it hard for us "little flowers" to compete.  I don't see that changing, since the Christmas Relay thing that just ended.

We already devote nearly half the year to fundraising, and I would rather have a fresh and vibrant team effort than to burn out before the season even begins.  We did not participate in off season fundraising as a team for this very reason.

I have repeatedly argued with committee members that RFL should take place during winter months, when we're all sitting home on our computers in the evenings.  I personally have missed way too many spring and summer evenings with my family because I was raising money for the American Cancer Society.  This is not the kind of example I want to set for my (grown) children.  ACS has a huge budget, and they don't need my family time sacrificed.  Those summer evenings will never come again.

What a WONDERFUL day!

Relay is over now, and I am still catching my breath. We laughed, we cried, we celebrated. The Luninaria ceremony was, as always, very moving.

We still have about a week left to raise money, but we have raised so far over 700,000 lindens - more than 2,800 USD. I am so very proud of you all!

GO REDHEADS! GO RELAY!

Pink for the Cure at Cutlass

Last weekend, Dusk and Jenni planned a lovely "Pink at Cutlass" evening.  Since I love the color pink, I was in heaven with all the beautiful shades of pink friends around me!

We had a fun evening with Dusk's classic music and it felt like coming home again.

Thank you Dusk, for the sweet music and event!  Thank you Jenni, for providing our team with a lovely venue at Club Cutlass for the past five years!

Bid Me Human!

Our sweet foxy SL News Reporter, Bixyl Shuftan, volunteered himself for our Bid Me Human event in Southern Colorado on Friday night.

He reached Human status within the first 15 minutes of bidding, raising L$5000 for the first week of Human-ness and L$1000 per additional day.  The total raised was L$29,000, and Bixyl will be Human for a month!

Special thanks to Nuala Maracas for rescuing us when our DJ was detained.  While Nuala has her own team, the Relay Rockers, she showed her true Spirit of Relay by heading over on a moment's notice to help our team.  She then spent two hours playing some wonderful music, while bringing over many of her own teammates for our Event.

We all had a great time taking turns sitting in Lomgren's Transmogulator, built just for this event.  I hope we'll get a chance to use it again soon!  What a great team we have!

And there's our Bixyl in his oh, so handsome Human Form!

Team Relay for Hope

I'm late in adding this post, but it's a story that needs to be told, and told often, because I want the whole world to know.

Early in April, Daaneth Kivioq  was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit after suffering a debilitating Cardiovascular Accident. From its inception, Daan has been a driving force behind the Passionate Redheads Team.  It is an understatement to say we were all in a terrible state of grief.  Our fundraising efforts ground to a halt as we waited breathlessly for some word of Daan's condition.

Just three days after getting the news of Daan's stroke,  Evangaline Ling, Captain of Relay for Hope, came to me and offered to throw a Get Well Daaneth fundraising Event for our team.  There would be no work for us to do, she explained.  "We'll put out Passionate Redheads Kiosks and collect donations for your team in honor of Daaneth."  All we had to do was show up.

The generosity of this offer can only be understood if you've planned a fundaising Event in Second Life.  It takes days of painstaking details to work out.  Team Relay for Hope arranged everything; from obtaining space on ACS Island, to the wonderful music, even setting out Team Kiosks!  Team Cure Chasers decorated the stage and dance floor in a beautiful and festive display.  DJ Shayla volunteered her time and played for us some beautiful and uplifting music for the first hour.  In the second hour, DJ Dusk chose some of Daan's personal favorites, including Daan's "Theme Song, Rocky Mountain High."

I think I cried the whole two hours.  What an outpouring of love for Daaneth, for me, and for the Passionate Redheads Team!

It is said that we don't remember the words people say, but we remember how they made us feel.  I can honestly say that I can't remember much about those first weeks after Daan's stroke, but I will remember forever how very much love I felt.  I'll remember it for the rest of my life.

Thank you, Evangeline and Team Relay for Hope, Cure Chasers, and all who came to show support to Daaneth, to me, and to the team.  Daan is recovering well, and our hearts are forever changed by the love we've experienced in the Relay for Life.

Welcome Home, Daaneth!

Some of you may have seen Daaneth back in Second Life this week.  He's not snubbing you; he can't type!

Daaneth suffered a stroke last month and his recovery has been miraculous!  He is back home and doing well.  A speech therapist has been coming to work with him on his typing skills.

He can read your IM's and your notecards.  He has begun typing one or two word responses.
Daaneth sounds great, and he is able to use voice in SL.

Than you to all who have sent words of encouragement to Daaneth and to me!  The outpouring of love and support has been heartwarming.  I've saved every word.

I always remember to say prayers of Gratitude.  I remain ever grateful for the friendship and love of  my beautiful and loving Team mates, the Passionate, Compassionate, Redheads.

With Love,
Sabine

Prayers for Daaneth

I am asking everyone for fervent prayers for Daaneth Kivioq.  As you may have heard, Daaneth suffered a stroke on April 5. He remains hospitalized in stable condition.

We'll continue to Relay while we pray for Daaneth's complete recovery.

With Love,
Sabine

Team Challenge!

We're issuing a challenge to all Passionate Redheads Team Members: Host or sponsor ONE event!

It can be a small open house for your friends.  You could ask your favorite DJ to have a kiosk and show for us.  One. One Show.  Maybe you have a game you like to play.  Can the sim sponsor us for one game?  Just toss out a kiosk and we're there!

I'm personally working on a Gone With the Wind event because it's my favorite movie of all time, and because I want to reach out to NON-Redheads just to let people know we're out here and we're working for the Cure!

With nearly 100 team members, we should be able to keep busy til Relay Day July 16.  Happy Relaying!

With Love,
Sabine

Sunday Giant Snail Race

Don't forget to come out and support Daaneth in the Giant Snail Race on Sunday at noon SLT. I'll be "racing", too, but I have slow internet, so don't expect too much! At any rate, RacerX has promised to get me to the finish if I fall into a dark hole!

You can still grab a snail and race!

With Love,
Your Sabine

(added by Daan)
Sabine sadly crashed, and was unable to finish the race - but with a bit of luck, I managed to squeak in a third place finish!

Daaneth DJing at Club Cutlass

Last Friday, March 18th I had my SL DJing Debut at our "Spies and Private Eyes" themed event at Club Cutlass. Thankfully, despite the fact that I had a heck of a time getting my Gramophone hooked up the the Internets, I think I did pretty well. Thanks to the generosity of all who attended, we raised over 3500L. I would also like to thank Jenni Pintens and Rita Mariner for giving me the opportunity to host this event.

GO RELAY! GO REDHEADS!

Our Fifth Year!

On March 12, 2010,  The Passionate Redheads kicked off their fifth year together! I am so proud to be a part of this beautiful Relay for Life Team.

This season, our Team has been hosting a Round Table Discussion for Relayers from all teams.  It's been a huge success, attracting  those who are new to Relay and those who have been around for a long time.  This is a longtime dream of mine to see the teams reaching out to one another in the true Spirit of Relay.  If you have not attended, we invite you to drop in at Hope Gardens, Southern Colorado (162, 42, 25)Tuesdays at 4:30 SLT.

With Love

Happy Valentine's Day!

The Passionate Redheads are ready to Relay! Events begin March 16, and we have some big plans!

I love this team and its passion.  There is no other team anything like ours in all of Relay for Life!  We are beginning our FIFTH season; 85 members have stayed with us year after year.  No other team can make this claim.

With all my HEART, I offer each of you my gratitude and admiration for all you've done. It's humbling to see so many people working together for a common cause.  We get tired, we get crabby, but we carry on, and we do an AMAZING job every year!

If we just remember to always take care of each other, the money will always take care of itself.  It's worked for us every year!

I'm so very proud to be a part of this Passionate Team!

Go REDHEADS!

Yours with Love and Gratitude,
Sabine
