I'm late in adding this post, but it's a story that needs to be told, and told often, because I want the whole world to know.
Early in April, Daaneth Kivioq was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit after suffering a debilitating Cardiovascular Accident. From its inception, Daan has been a driving force behind the Passionate Redheads Team. It is an understatement to say we were all in a terrible state of grief. Our fundraising efforts ground to a halt as we waited breathlessly for some word of Daan's condition.
Just three days after getting the news of Daan's stroke, Evangaline Ling, Captain of Relay for Hope, came to me and offered to throw a Get Well Daaneth fundraising Event for our team. There would be no work for us to do, she explained. "We'll put out Passionate Redheads Kiosks and collect donations for your team in honor of Daaneth." All we had to do was show up.
The generosity of this offer can only be understood if you've planned a fundaising Event in Second Life. It takes days of painstaking details to work out. Team Relay for Hope arranged everything; from obtaining space on ACS Island, to the wonderful music, even setting out Team Kiosks! Team Cure Chasers decorated the stage and dance floor in a beautiful and festive display. DJ Shayla volunteered her time and played for us some beautiful and uplifting music for the first hour. In the second hour, DJ Dusk chose some of Daan's personal favorites, including Daan's "Theme Song, Rocky Mountain High."
I think I cried the whole two hours. What an outpouring of love for Daaneth, for me, and for the Passionate Redheads Team!
It is said that we don't remember the words people say, but we remember how they made us feel. I can honestly say that I can't remember much about those first weeks after Daan's stroke, but I will remember forever how very much love I felt. I'll remember it for the rest of my life.
Thank you, Evangeline and Team Relay for Hope, Cure Chasers, and all who came to show support to Daaneth, to me, and to the team. Daan is recovering well, and our hearts are forever changed by the love we've experienced in the Relay for Life.
