The Redheads held a great team meeting this evening to discuss the impending Relay season. The theme this year is “Time for a Cure”. We kicked around some preliminary ideas for a campsite around the TimeMachine theme with possible steampunk costumes.
We have four co-captains this year: Sabine, Daan, Dusk, and Lomgren. Bryan also reported he was available to answer questions when they arise.
Themed dances as money raisers were suggested: 40s jazz dance, a 50s flapper dance, a 60s rock dance, a 70s disco dance, and so on. Lom reminded us not to be afraid to hold events, just make sure that one of the captains is contacted so it gets into the event boards. It’s helpful if we also remember to get it on SL's events list online. It was further discussed that we should remember to support other teams by attending their events. It means a lot to see other teams coming over to support each other in their fundraising efforts.
Sabine reminded us that in the spirit of Relay, the Passionate Redheads will again be sponsoring informational meetings for anyone from any team. Several successful Team Captains have agreed to come over and share some ideas with us already.
Daaneth reminded us promote the team blog at http://thepassionateredheads.blogspot.com/ . He will be sending out Redhead Goodie bags as Relay time approaches. Bryan has built a Redheads museum and urges all team members to visit. The slurl is http://slurl.com/secondlife/Precious%20Dragons/96/32/22 .
Finally, Relay for Life is changing groups, so please join the new chat, Relay For Life Volunteers. SL RFL for Life will soon be discontinued. Technorati tags: thepassionateredheads relayforlife secondlife

New Year
The Passionate Redheads may be resting for now, but we're already thinking about the next Relay. Last year it seemed that the "big guys" took over a lot of the heavy fundraising, making it hard for us "little flowers" to compete. I don't see that changing, since the Christmas Relay thing that just ended.
We already devote nearly half the year to fundraising, and I would rather have a fresh and vibrant team effort than to burn out before the season even begins. We did not participate in off season fundraising as a team for this very reason.
I have repeatedly argued with committee members that RFL should take place during winter months, when we're all sitting home on our computers in the evenings. I personally have missed way too many spring and summer evenings with my family because I was raising money for the American Cancer Society. This is not the kind of example I want to set for my (grown) children. ACS has a huge budget, and they don't need my family time sacrificed. Those summer evenings will never come again.

What a WONDERFUL day!
Relay is over now, and I am still catching my breath. We laughed, we cried, we celebrated. The Luninaria ceremony was, as always, very moving.
We still have about a week left to raise money, but we have raised so far over 700,000 lindens - more than 2,800 USD. I am so very proud of you all!
GO REDHEADS! GO RELAY!
